The AmberBirch production facility designed and built by Pillar Contractor has been opened

On 17 September, the expanded AmberBirch birch veneer production facility was officially opened in Krustpils Parish, Jēkabpils Municipality. Pillar Contractor, as the general contractor for design and construction works, carried out the expansion of the production workshop and the construction of the infrastructure required for the facility’s operation.
The works began in April 2024. One of the most important tasks was to organise the construction in a way that allowed veneer production on the existing line to continue during the works. This required careful planning of the work sequence and close cooperation with the client.
As part of the project, the veneer production workshop was expanded by 10,442 m². Roundwood storage areas and a new woodchip warehouse were also built, part of the existing boiler house warehouse was reconstructed, and a prefabricated warehouse and a modular building for the finished goods documentation post and drivers’ rest area were installed. The existing roundwood hydrothermal treatment basin was converted into an external firefighting water reservoir. The total area of the expanded production facility is approximately 15,000 m².
AmberBirch’s total investment in this development stage amounts to approximately EUR 51 million. Alongside construction, the company has invested in modern production technologies and automation. The expansion of the production facility makes it possible to increase production capacity to 90,000 m³ of veneer per year and create greater added value for Latvian timber.
